I had a mini-meltdown yesterday. It wasn’t major and it didn’t last long but it ended up with quite a bit of “junk” getting thrown out.

It’s been 2 1/2 months since we moved in the “stuff” and while most of the space looks like a normal apartment, there’s a few corners that have been left…I don’t know what the word for it is…unattended?? The basic problem is that we have less space here than some of our other apartments. I know what you’re thinking…why would we downsize? But the neighborhood we now live in and my distance from work is definitely an upgrade. So it’s worth it to feel just a little more cramped in order to have the comforts of our town.

That still doesn’t mean I can handle it graciously all the time.

So yesterday was one of those days when I woke up and looked around and decided it was time to purge. I started in the kitchen, which is my turf so it was cool. I didn’t garbage much, just rearranged a few thing. (The All-Star says that rearranging is one of my quirks… I think it keeps me sane.)

Anyway, the kitchen went well but I was still unsatisfied so I moved on to the one room in the place where he does not want me rummaging…the office.

The office/spare bedroom still looks like more of a storage space. It’s where we’ve stashed all the things we don’t know what to do with but just can’t seem to part with. It’s also from where The All-Star runs his business and it did not sit well with him that I was attempting to throw out things that might be his. He persisted but I won and so the excavation began.

What got kicked to the curb? One big black bag of garbage, a big box of recycling and three (yes 3!) suitcases. The eureka moment was when I found some summer clothes that were lost since our trip to Florida in November ’09.  The All-Star also also found a few t-shirts that were packed amongst a box of dvds. Oh boy.

So here we are, a little bit lighter and a whole lot more organized, and I woke up this morning feeling like a kid on Christmas with my present of four more square feet of space!

Happy Monday!
