Frequently Asked Questions

What should I expect on the first visit?

Your first visit is scheduled for 90 minutes. This gives us plenty of time to discuss your health goals and provide your initial treatment.

During the consultation, you will be asked several questions about your main concerns as well as your overall health. You’ll also have time to ask any questions you may have.

After accessing your wellness goals, the treatment will begin. This will include acupuncture, and depending on your needs, may also include electrical stimulation, cupping, massage or gua sha. Every person is unique, so your treatment plan will be tailored specifically to you.

The acupuncture needles are typically retained for about 30 minutes while you rest in a quiet, dimly lit room with soft music playing. This is an opportunity to relax and reset.

How do I prepare?

On the day of your appointment:

  • Arrive with time to spare so you don’t feel rushed.

  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing so we can easily access commonly used acupuncture points on your arms and legs.

  • Eat lightly beforehand. Avoid coming on an empty stomach. Having a small snack can help prevent dizziness after the treatment.

These simple steps will help you feel relaxed and ready for your session.

What can I expect after the treatment?

Most patients will notice some degree of relief following their session. This may last anywhere from a few hours to several days. Your response often depends on the nature of your condition and how long it has been present.

In general, people leave their treatment feeling both deeply relaxed or pleasantly energized.

Is acupuncture safe?

Yes. Acupuncture is a very safe therapy with no harmful side effects, and it will not interfere with any medical treatment you may already be receiving. On rare occasions, patients may experience mild, temporary effects such as slight bruising at the needle site or brief light-headedness.

Treatments can always be adjusted to match your comfort level.

Are the needles clean?

Yes. All acupuncture needles are clean, sterile, and used only once. After removal, they are immediately disposed of in a medical sharps container to ensure complete safety.

Does acupuncture hurt?

Most people describe acupuncture as virtually painless. You may feel a quick, slight prick upon insertion, followed by sensations that can range from nothing at all, to mild tingling, gentle achiness, or even subtle pulsations in areas away from the needle site. These sensations typically fade once the needles are removed.

Acupuncture needles are extremely thin, much smaller than standard hypodermic needles. They are solid (not hollow), do not draw blood, and are designed for comfort.

How many treatments will I need?

The number of treatments varies depending on the nature, severity, and duration of your condition. Some issues respond quickly and may be resolved in just a few sessions, while more chronic concerns often require ongoing care over time.

Progress is also influenced by your overall lifestyle. When combined with healthy changes, acupuncture can be especially effective in creating lasting improvements.

Will insurance cover my visit?

I’m happy to verify your insurance benefits for you. In, addition, acupuncture is an eligible service for HSA and FSA payments.
