Karma’s Watchin’
Filed under Cultivate Your WellnessAug 1Phew. What a day!
I’m still battling this stupid summer cold and really wasn’t looking forward to today. I rested all weekend but still wasn’t feeling much better and I guess all the pressure of having to leave my apartment got to me because I had a little bit of meltdown over a pot of oatmeal and yelled at The All-Star and shed a few tears. Yeah, I’m that dramatic.
Thinking I could get away with being such a brat after he’s cared for me all week, I quickly said sorry, hugged him good-bye, and walked briskly over to my office (because I was running late as usual) only to find that I had forgotten my keys. So then I had to curl my tail between my legs and call the man-of-my-fancy and ask him to stop what he was doing because I needed my keys and couldn’t get them myself because I had a patient on their way.
He kindly complied, because he kindly loves me.
I apologized to my patient who ended up waiting with me for the keys and quickly got to work.
Unfortunately as soon as I plugged my computer in I was met with sudden horror. My replacement laptop charger was now also broken. I had 7 hours ahead of me and about 5 minutes of charge. NOOOOOOO!!!
I again tried texting and calling The All-Star. Only this time he didn’t answer.
After my patient left I had an hour to rush home and search for another possible replacement cord so I could possibly (fingers-crossed) charge my computer. When I got there my sweet-special-someone was waiting for me with a cord in his hand.
Oh the guilt, the shame. He’s so much better than me.
“I’m so sorry dear All-Star. I’m so sorry jerks karma. I’ll be nicer, I promise.”
It just goes to show. Just when you think you can take an inch, karma is there to drag you a mile…and lucky for me I have one very patient fiance who is always there to brush off the dust.

Good Times for the 4th of July
Filed under The Holidays, TravelJul 7The All-Star and I were able to take a mini vacation for the long holiday weekend. Some friends invited us up to their Tahoe home for a little r&r. What a great time it was!
We left a little behind schedule Friday night so we were unable to caravan with the rest of our group. Fortunately we didn’t hit any traffic and made it up there only a short time after them and we didn’t miss a beat of fun.
On Saturday we took a short drive to Angora Lake. Our timing was perfect and we got there just as the morning crowd was leaving and avoided a mile long walk with a parking spot right up front. We also managed to snag a perfect spot on the beach and a picnic table near by!

Angora Lake was amazing. Half of the lake is surrounded by steep rock. Normally there are folks jumping off the cliffs into the water. There still were a few brave souls but not us because the water was freezing!! There was snow fall earlier in the week which was melting into the glacier-made lake but it created the most beautiful waterfalls everywhere you looked.

We rafted around and bathed in the warm sun. Our friends informed us that this was quite an unusual sight to see this time of year. What a treat!

Even though the day was warm and sunny, snow still surrounded the lake in some parts. If there is one thing we love more than summer, it’s snow, and here they both were, wrapped up in one perfect place.

Sunday we rode bikes to Lake Tahoe and walked along to Camp Richardson. The backdrop of snow capped mountains while people barbequed and splashed in the lake was another sight to see.

We stayed for a bit and then biked back to home base where we enjoyed another restful evening.
Monday was the holiday but also our time to leave. I was sad to be heading home and felt anxious that the holiday would be spent in the car. I love the 4th of July. Not just because it’s a fun national holiday but it also marks the official start of my relationship with The All-Star. (Six years ago, can you believe it?)
As we drove along the windy road down the mountain we saw a sign for tourist info. We followed the road for quite a while and were led to Sly Park Recreation Area. We rented a paddle boat and swam in the lake. It was an awesome find and we talked about going back to camp some day. Don’t you just loved unplanned adventures?!

But wait, it wasn’t over yet! On our way home I messaged a friend to see if there would be any fireworks that evening. She said there was one at a nearby high school but traffic was always ridiculous. We arrived home with just enough time to freshen up and bike our way over instead. The fireworks were awesome, “well choreographed,” the All-Star said, and the high school marching band who played along were fabulous. When it was over we rushed to beat the crowd and enjoyed a nice, but slightly tiring, bike ride home.
What better way to celebrate our independence than by enjoying all the things that we love…nature, friends, fireworks and each other!!
I hope everyone had as great a weekend as we did!!

Great Start for Week 2 and Day 8
Filed under Exercise, MeditationJan 12Last night’s recharge meditation was just what I needed. Today I feel great and this morning I woke up ready to start a new day and a new Challenge week. Today’s fitness activity was a 2 1/2 mile run to the beach and back. My new neighborhood is so cool. I love jogging past all the little beach houses and the closer I get to the coast, the more beach bungalo-ey they get. I finally feel like I’m living “California.” It only took 2 years.
I’m continuing to feel really good on my runs. No aches or cramps. Feet feel good and breathing is steady. I’m certainly getting the hang of it. After my run today I did some good stretching, which I have been forgetting to do. The pre-run stretch I remember, but when I return I’m all about getting out of my sweaty clothes and tracking MyRoute, that I forget to make sure my body is where it needs to be. Note to self…REMEMBER TO STRETCH! So I did today, and had some lunch and got myself ready for work. On the car ride in, I felt soooo good. It was a combination of adrenaline and euphoria. I was calm, awake, and happy to be alive. How’s that for a new drug?!
So enough about me. I’d like to give a High Five shout out to The All-Star who’s starting his first day at The Art Institute today. This is just another reason why we call him The All-Star. He knows what he wants and how to go out and get it, and of course, can succeed in whatever he sets his mind to.
Way to go baby! Totally proud of you, (and you’re super cute)! And I’m a little jealous, I wanna take art classes. Maybe I’ll find a pottery class. I still have my tools from moons ago. Ahh, the power of inspiration.
Speaking of inspiration… Here’s yesterday’s Zen calender meditation. I think it was more appropriate for yesterday but we can continue to think about it today. Aloha!
