Monday Motivation #104

Happy Monday!

I had the privilege of sharing space with a beautiful group of individuals last night. We meditated on gratitude, on growing our awareness in the present, and on the breath. And as we talked afterward, we were reminded of the significance of our first and last breath. When a child is born, we wait in anticipation for their first breath to appear, rejoicing when it comes. At the bedside of a dying loved one, we keep watch over each rise and fall of the chest, guiding them with our intentions toward their last.

The breath is the gift that gives us life. We hold the first and last so sacred, yet often forget the ones in between, taking for granted their awesome power. Each inhale feeding our existence, each exhale sending away what no longer serves us.

These last couple of weeks have been challenging for many. There is uncertainty and resistance everywhere we look. Yet the one thing that we can be certain of, at least in this moment, is that we are here and that we are ok. The world is not spinning without us (even when it feels that way) and we do have the strength to continue on our path.

We’re reminded of this as we notice the sensation of the breath entering the body – following it down the throat and into the lungs. Noticing the space it creates in the chest. And as we breathe out with intention, we settle deeper into the moment. Deeper within ourselves. Perhaps finding that place of quiet and peace we so anxiously crave. There you can rest. There you can gain strength. There you can begin again.

This week I encourage you to practice guiding yourself to this space. Trust that you have the wisdom that will lead you to a place of comfort.

If you need it, this meditation will help guide you.

Have a beautiful week, my friend.
