Monday Motivation Newsletter #120

Happy Monday!

Has the time change been a challenge for you? It always is for me. Let’s take a moment to check in together.

Deep breath in.

Feel the expansion it creates.

And release, settling into the present.

What did you notice?

I noticed a little tension, a little achiness. These creaky bones are ready for spring. Fortunately, when the clocks change, we know spring is just around the corner. So even though it throws us off, maybe Daylight Savings isn’t so bad – if we change the way we look at it.

I’ve been thinking about perspective all weekend – how changing the way you look at something can completely shift its meaning. I’ve been practicing taking a second look at the things that bother me, seeing if there’s another angle I might be missing or avoiding.

I’ll share the story that sparked this contemplation.

Last week, my 7 year old daughter became very upset after seeing a photo of an anglerfish. You know the one – huge mouth, sharp teeth, straight out of a nightmare. One had recently surfaced from the deep, and its eerie image was all over social media. Like many, you may have been shocked to learn it was only six inches long.

We reassured her that this small fish lived deep in the ocean and posed no threat. We even found a less frightening picture – but she wasn’t having it. Hands over her eyes, tears rolling down her face, she refused to look.

Later that evening, she “accidentally” saw another photo – this time, an anglerfish resting in someone’s palm, its teeth hidden. She stared at it, unbothered. When I told her it was the same fish, she giggled.

“See?” I said. “It’s not so scary when you see it in a different way.”

Isn’t that how our minds work sometimes? We get stuck on the thing that bothers us, focusing on the part that feels the biggest or scariest. We let it grow, take up space, and forget that there’s more to the story. But when we shift our perspective – even just a little – the whole picture can change.

This is mindfulness.

It’s what we explore in our meditations – taking a moment to notice and observe without judgment.

It’s what we create space for with the breath – inviting a shift in perspective, even when it feels difficult.

By practicing mindfulness, we begin to see things from a new angle. And sometimes, just a small shift is all it takes to bring peace, clarity, and a deeper understanding.

So today, I invite you to take a moment to think about something that’s been bothering you. See if there’s an angle you’ve been missing. Maybe you’ll see it’s not so bad after all. Maybe you’ll even find an opportunity for some positivity to grow.

Here’s a guided meditation that may help you explore this shift.

I hope you enjoy it.

If you feel called to, I’d love to hear how a shift in perspective worked for you – whether it’s through a comment, a message, or any way that feels right for you. Your thoughts and reflections are always valued here.

Thank you for sharing your time with me today. I hope you have a beautiful week.

Bye for now.
